TableMaster II is very nearly feature-complete. This afternoon, .LIST and .LOOKUP were finished. That took some structural rearranging of the program, because I thought of a much better way to do it than I did the first time around. The way it is now, if there’s ever a demand to put .GRID back in (though I seriously doubt there will be … did anyone ever use that?) or I come up with something new that is essentially a quasi-table the way a list is, the structure is all there for it. And there’s one slightly new tweak with .LIST, too.

Today’s collection of goodies is from the Apocalypse Table Pack, with random mishaps that can happen to a party traveling in a dangerous wilderness. The assumption is that the group is traveling with a mix of vehicles and riding animals. Even if your group isn’t, there should be plenty here you can use. Incidentally, there is a similar table, with fantasy-specific events, in Fantasy Table Pack 1.

Today’s Hoard is a cavern. A mile of it, to be precise. Hopefully it won’t have too many issues with the formatting, because the descriptions of the sections are fairly long and they’ll probably annoy the blog software.
This is one of those tables that is extremely easy to customize for your game, simply by adding things that are found in caves in your world to the list of items and removing ones that aren’t appropriate. Adjusting the passageway to room ratio is also easy; there’s a comment in the file to say “change this.”

Valuable objects are always a wonderful sort of treasure because, absent teleportation or bags of holding, many of these things are simply not readily portable. In a low-tech society, far less wealth is in the form of any type of currency than we are used to today. Instead, it’s likely to be … this stuff. Imagine the dismay of the characters who have found that the valuable loot is valuable, all right, but it consists of a small decorative table, several tapestries, and a huge rug!

Since I was talking about heraldry earlier, I decided that 100 random shield designs would be a good way to start off the new Gamemaster’s Hoard series. This is using the table that generates them in plain English instead of proper (but cryptic) heraldic terminology, which is essentially Norman-French.
By the way, I won’t be using the usual output-text option because it wraps lines even smaller than the default does.

Back in the dark ages, when there were actually *ominous voice* gamers who had no computers(!), Wintertree sold a product called the Gamemaster’s Hoard. It was a couple of dozen pages of TableMaster printouts — a hundred gems, I think, two miles of caverns, and so on. It was a surprisingly good seller.
I doubt if there’s much of a market for that today. Even my mother has a computer. But since people are waiting for the new TableMaster, I wanted to give them something to use in the meantime.
Hence, the Gamemaster’s Hoard blog posts. Every day I’ll post a big batch of something generated by TableMaster that you can use in a game. I’ll spread it around among different genres from the four Table Packs and any new things I’ve come up with. Remember that these are all output from TableMaster tables, so some of the combinations may not make sense. There may be evidence of bugs in there too; TMII is nowhere close to debugged yet. But at least it will give people who are waiting for TableMaster something they can use while they’re waiting, and people who haven’t backed the Kickstarter yet (go do it!) a good idea of the kind of things TableMaster can do.
